Because of its importance, its greatness and its rare beauty, the archaeological site of the Valley of the Temples has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. The temples, built in tuff stone, when looked from far with the sunset light, become golden, creating a magical atmosphere and a suggestive landscape unique in the world.

Standing in front of the majestic Temple of Concord, the best temple in terms of preservation status, is a fascinating experience; as well as stopping in front of the Temple of Juno, Temple of Heracles, Temple of Hera (which has a rectangular plan and 34 columns), the Temple of Castor and Pollux, and walking through the incredible monuments which have been preserved since the Hellenistic Age.
