Scala dei Turchi
white clay stretches
to peak on the sea
The Scala dei Turchi (Turk’s Staircase) is an unmissable place if you are Borgo Giallonardo’s guest. It is easily reachable being 10 minutes away by car. The Scala dei Turchi leaves speechless tourists from all around the world.
It is a candid “staircase” which chromatically contrasts the clear blue Mediterranean Sea. The Scala dei Turchi is a “monument of nature”: a white marl cliff which has been shaped by nature (through wind and rains) throughout the centuries, smoothing its shape and realising something that looks like a large staircase with a dazzling reflection.
From Borgo Giallonardo, you can walk to Scala dei Turchi, approximately 30 minutes’ walk, along Realmonte’s coast. During this nice walk you take pictures of the stunning sicilian landscapes before lying down on the smooth white clayb stretches where the sea shows its crystal clarity.
The legend
The Turks climbed the natural staircase (the white cliff) and reached Realmonte. Since then, the candid cliff took the name of Scala dei Turchi.
