Luigi Pirandello and
Andrea Camilleri’s city
Porto Empedocle, named after the philosopher Empedocles from Agrigento, at the beginning was a fishing village next to Girgenti. rToday Porto Empedocle is one of the most important destinations of the sicilian southwest coast and is the motherland of renown writers. It’s the Andrea Camilleri’s motherland, writer of the famous novels of the “Commissario Montalbano” (The Inspector Montalbano).
Aside from the cultural value, Porto Empedocle’s coast is a well appreciated beach destination: you can choose among many free and equipped beaches, but, most importantly, you can visit the renown Scala dei Turchi, a few kilometres form Borgo Giallonardo boutique hotel and wine estate.
The monuments
In Porto Empedocle’s main street, Via Roma, you can admire the statue dedciate to Luigi Pirandello and another statue representing the Inspector Montalbano, Andrea Camilleri’s fictional character. There are many churches around the city, characterised by the combination of different styles, with a baroque dominance.
